What you are looking at is my first attempt at encaustic painting. It is a very small piece. Roughly the size of a post card.

I created it in early 2008, after a day spent experimenting & learning some techniques in an introductory class given by the fabulous artist Andrea Bird. It was my first attempt at an actual composition.

Sure, I had done some time amassing a formal art education, grew up in a family lousy with artsy folk (my mother & my grandmother were both artists), but … I put all of that aside & opted instead for a life that I thought would bring me less heartache. That was over 25 years ago.

In the years between then & now, I worked really hard at some terrific professions: Interior design, set design & styling, window dresser, chef, caterer, event planner … I had pretty much given up on any idea of art as life choice. Until …

I did this piece & I was inspired.

As you can see, it is neither exciting nor accomplished. And yet … this is the piece that changed my life.

What followed was a frantic period of intense output. Please enjoy looking at my work & I hope that you check in regularly as I work every day (not quite as frantically as I was at the beginning), so there will definitely be additions.

I have a lot of catching up to do.
